“Michael Ehlers the essence of vaudeville joie de vivre as her fleet, adoring husband, Wilbur.”
HEDY WEISS Chicago SunTimes
“The Turnblads, Michael Ehlers as Wilbur andMichael Kingston as Edna, are funny, loveable, authentic caricatures. And no, “authentic caricature” is not necessarily oxy moronic. “Timeless to Me” in any production of Hairspray must be a hit. And it is here.”

“I must give a shout-out to Michael Ehlers, cast as her father, as he and Kingston truly moved us in a sweet scene later in the show.”

“The loving relationship between Mama Edna (Michael Kingston) and loving Dad Wilbur (Michael Ehlers) remind us that love can be everlasting no matter what level of success or the size of your dress. The charming moments between the two in You’re Timeless to Me is as comforting as a hot cocoa on a cold winter’s night.”

“You’re Timeless to Me” is a sweet second-act duet by Kingston and Ehlers as a couple whose love is still strong after many years. Kudos to both for not missing a beat after a wall being moved during a set change got stuck and they were forced to take a 15-minute break right before their song.”

Michael Ehlers as Gene in "Side Man"
American Blues Theater, Chicago
“Michael Ehlers, who, with remarkable economy, suggests a man capable of tuning out in order to tune in.” (Heddy Weiss / Chicago Sun-Times)
“There is something honest about the understated Michael Ehlers that makes you totally believe that he was a horn player of quotidian renown”
(Chris Jones / Chicago Tribune)
“The strength of this production is the solid work of Mahler, Buddeke and Ehlers, who truly get deep into the relationships, limited as they are, of this family.”
(Alan Bresloff / Around the Town)
“Gene – devastatingly reduced to everything but his instrument by MichaelEhlers”
"They’re too real to sit in the first two rows."

Michael Ehlers as Pete in "Pete 'n' Keely"
Actor's Theatre of Indiana
With Judy Fitzgerald as Keely
"As Pete Bartel, Michael Ehlers brings an impressive resume to his ATI debut. Ehlers is a terrific foil for Fitzgerald’s Keely, doing his best to stick to the teleprompter, keep the sponsor happy and maybe rekindle a spark with his former wife. Ehlers also gets a terrific musical solo, bringing both vocal and physical finesse to his version of the Peggy Lee classic “Fever”.

"Whenever Judy Fitzgerald as Keely or Michael Ehlers as Pete sang solo, in tandem, or in unison, their individual voices were strong and beautiful — real treats. I especially loved listening to Fitzgerald sing the "Black Coffee" blues. I also loved the elegant yearning in Ehlers' rendition of "Fever." Their hilarious "Cross Country Tour" medley left me breathless with admiration."

Theater at the Center

“...It's a strikingly honest night...
Michael Ehlers offers a haunted, desperate Jolson staring into the mirror and both needing and and despising what he sees."

" ...The star of the show is Michael Ehlers as Al Jolson, a complex and gifted man to play. Michael Ehlers does a wonderful job, he has a great dancing history behind him and sings perhaps better than the original Jolson..."

Michael Ehlers as Don Lockwood in "Singin in the Rain"

"...Considering that live performers get only one "take," this trio--who must all sing, dance, and act--is terrific. Michael Ehlers is suave as the publicity-shy star who likes to hoof in the rain... "

"...This play was a real treat to view. I am most sure that Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelley are attending in spirit each performance. Michael Ehlers playing Don Lockwood does more than justice to the role, his dancing, singing, and acting are more than top notch..."
